Examples how to improve intralogistics with wearable devices

Traditional paper-based picking methods are one of the highest expenses when operating a warehouse. Wearable devices help to lower that cost by boosting accuracy and productivity. Picking sequences can be displayed on a smart-watch.

The operator scans each item with his watch or an external barcode scanner. Confirmations or missing items can directly be reported with the touch-interface of the watch. All task data will be stored and can be analyzed for further process improvements.

The status and schedule of a job is the basis for the timely planning of a transport process. By using wearable devices, the worker can update the status of a job at anytime and can easily initiate and modify transport requests, even before the relevant operation is completed. Due to instant feedback on the status of a work piece, the internal transport can be scheduled to the calculated end of an operation. This reduces order lead times and saves buffer space at the work place.
